I love the holidays! Our Thanksgiving was great. We traveled just a little ways to Rick’s parents, spent 2 nights and had some good old fashion family time. We even watched ‘A Christmas Carol’ on Thursday evening. Rick absolutely loves anything to do with ‘A Christmas Carol’. The different movie versions, books, the characters, the story itself and the wisdom behind it all. We have a couple of versions, I need to find another to put in his stocking this year.
Friday was our 16th wedding anniversary. We had a nice dinner at home, and then on Saturday we went to the Spa House to enjoy a nice relaxing time. It was awesome! I had never had a massage before, not like that one! We spend some time in the hot tub and then had an entire hour massage. I think I would like to do that once a month, if i could afford it. It has convinced me, however, to begin a yoga class. With the fibromyalgia that has attacked my body, i believe yoga would be a good thing to help my body to work better. I’ll see because I start a class on friday!
Oh and this coming Monday I leave for Las Vegas! I’ve never been to Las Vegas, never really cared much about going. Only because there are so many other places I’d rather go, but this is a work related trip. I’ll be going with Sandra, my boss, to the PubCon Conference. I expect we will have a great time! I expect to learn a lot and meet some nice folk. I also expect to win a few bucks!
Right now I am busy with work and holiday preparation. I give an open house every year for the church we serve. I really enjoy doing this, to celebrate some of the holiday spirit with those whom I worship with and live with in this community. It is also a way for Rick and I to say thank you, to show love. It is a huge thing really, at least the preparation for it is very time consuming for we decorate like crazy. We have a collection of Dept.56 North Pole Series houses. We go all out on our display with a train that goes through the village and through a mountain. We design it a bit differently each year. It’s fun though. Right now my house is a huge mess with everything spread out here and there. But by the time the day arrives, it will look magnificent!
Traditions…I love to hear about other peoples holiday traditions. Traditions are so important to act upon, to continue, to make. Have you ever thought about where a particular family tradition began? One year I started a large stocking tradition. I think christmas stockings are the best to get! Well, if the giver understands what goes in a stocking. I have large stockins for the kids and grandkids. They love them! One year we started our tradition of Santa Claus. We take turns each year wearing the Santa cap. The one with the Santa cap is the one to pass out the presents…and we open one at a time. Rick and I have a tradtion of exchanging our stockings on christmas eve, after we have come home from Candlelight Services, which is another tradition, and with a glass of champaigne, we exchange our stocking gifts. Most times, they aren’t much. Actually we’ve never had much money to spend on each other after we are through with the kids. This year though, we all decided to draw names, except for the grandgirls. So maybe there will be a little extra money to go around. That’s just a few of our traditions. I’ll have to think about what else we do. Anybody care to share their traditions?
